The first signs of wear on a handbag are usually cracked edges, darkened handles and faded corners. Professional cleaning and edge painting can take years off a bag's appearance, and they protect the leather underneath. At Arturo's Shoe Fixx, a family-owned business since 1957, we do this careful work by hand at our Beverly Blvd workshop.
Most leather bags have painted edges: the raw cut edges of straps, handles and panels are sealed with edge paint. Over time that paint cracks, peels or wears through, especially on handles and anywhere the bag rubs against you. We remove the failing paint, prepare the edge, and apply new paint in layers, color-matched to the original. The result is clean, sealed edges that look right and protect the leather. Edge painting is priced after we see the bag.
We clean leather, canvas and suede bags using methods chosen for each material, including:
We'll be honest about which stains are likely to lift and which aren't. Deep cleaning starts at $65. That's a starting price, adjusted once we see the bag.
Corners, piping and handles fade and scuff first. We touch up or fully restore color with hand-matched dyes, so worn areas blend back into the rest of the bag. Color restoration is priced after we see the bag.
We work on everyday bags and luxury pieces alike, including Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermès and other designer bags. (Arturo's Shoe Fixx is an independent repair shop and is not affiliated with or authorized by these brands.) Every bag gets an individual assessment, and we won't start work without your approval on scope and price.
If your bag also needs new handles, stitching, zipper or hardware work, or a new lining, see our full handbag repair services. We can handle everything in one visit.
